What Keeps a Plane in the Air?

Drag is the force that opposes motion through the air. Pilots must manage drag carefully during every flight.
During takeoff, pilots use thrust to overcome drag and accelerate down the runway. During landing, drag becomes helpful because it slows the aircraft and allows a safe touchdown.
